Aqualignicola

Sexual morph: Ascomata immersed, globose to subglobose, membranous, hyaline to brown, solitary to gregarious. Neck short, dark-brown, covered with setae. Setae lanceolate, solid, surrounding the neck. Peridium, in surface view of textura angularis, composed of several layers of light-brown, pseudoparenchymatous cells. Paraphyses filiform, hyaline, simple to rarely branched, tapering towards the apex. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical, pedicellate, unitunicate, apically truncate, with a large, J-, refractive, cylindrical apical ring. Ascospores uni-seriate to bi-seriate, ellipsoidal-fusiform, hyaline, unicellular. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Notes: Aqualignicola was introduced by Ranghoo et al. (2001) with Aqualignicola hyalinaas type species. Currently, two species are accepted in this genus (Ranghoo et al.2001; Hu et al. 2012a), and both species were collected from freshwater habitats in Asia (Ranghoo et al. 2001; Sudheep and Sridhar 2011; Hu et al. 2012a).
