Neohelicosporium aquaticum
Neohelicosporium aquaticum Y.Z. Lu, J.C. Kang & K.D. Hyde
Index Fungorum number: IF 822057; Facesoffungi number: FoF 03572.
Holotype: GZAAS 16-0041.
Etymology: ‘aquaticum’ referring to aquatic habitat of this fungus.
Saprobic on submerged decaying wood. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: hyphomycetous, helicosporous. Colonies on the substratum superficial, effuse, gregarious, hyaline to light pink. Mycelium composed of partly immersed, partly superficial, hyaline to pale brown, septate, sparsely branched hyphae, with masses of crowded, glistening conidia. Conidiophores 60–190 μm long, 3.5–5 μm wide, macronematous, mononematous, erect, flexuous, cylindrical, sparsely branched, septate, arising directly on substrate, pale brown, smooth-walled. Conidiogenous cells 12–16 μm long, 3.5–5 μm wide, holoblastic, mono- to polyblastic, integrated, terminal or intercalary, cylindrical, with denticles, pale brown, smooth-walled. Conidia 27–32 μm diam. and conidial filament 4–5.5 μm wide (x̄ = 30 μm diam., 4.5 μm wide, n = 50), 150–185 μm long, tightly coiled 2.5–3.5 times, rounded at the tip, up to 26-septate, guttulate, hyaline.
